Romantic Getaway in the Finger Lakes: The Perfect Couples Weekend Itinerary

Looking for the perfect romantic getaway in the Finger Lakes?

Whether you're celebrating an anniversary, planning a surprise weekend away, celebrating an engagement, or simply looking for time together without the distractions of everyday life, the Finger Lakes offers everything couples need for an unforgettable escape. Scenic waterfalls, award-winning wineries, winding country roads, farm-to-table dining, and some of the darkest skies in New York create the perfect setting for reconnecting.

Sometimes the most romantic thing you can do is simply escape together.

At Two Bees Escape, our Finger Lakes glamping experience isn't about rushing from one attraction to the next. It's about slowing down. Watching the sunset with a glass of local wine. Sharing stories around a campfire. Sleeping under the stars and waking up to birdsong instead of alarms.

If you're planning a couples getaway to the Finger Lakes, here's our favorite way to spend a long weekend. With private glamping tents near Watkins Glen and the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, Two Bees Escape makes an ideal home base for exploring the region.

Day 1: Arrive, Unwind, and Enjoy the Sunset

The best romantic weekends begin by leaving the schedule behind.

After arriving at Two Bees Escape, settle into your private glamping tent and take a moment to appreciate something many of our guests tell us they haven't experienced in a while: quiet.

With only three glamping sites spread across the property, you'll have plenty of space to relax without feeling isolated. No crowded hotel hallways. No neighboring rooms. Just you, nature, and the person you came with.

Once you've unpacked, take a leisurely drive along Route 414, one of the most scenic roads on the east side of Seneca Lake. Rolling vineyards, lake views, and charming rural landscapes make the drive part of the experience.

Grab an early dinner at Johnny's Kitchen in Lodi or enjoy a relaxed bite and a glass of local wine or beer at Solera Tap House before continuing along the wine trail.

As the afternoon turns to evening, make your way to Atwater Vineyards. Their patio overlooking Seneca Lake is one of our favorite places to watch the sun begin to set. In fact, they're one of the few wineries in the area that stays open until sunset during the summer months. Order a tasting flight, find a seat overlooking the vines and water, and take in one of the most beautiful views in the Finger Lakes.

As evening settles in, return to your campsite, spark the warmth of the evening with a cozy campfire, uncork a bottle of your favorite Finger Lakes wine, and watch the last colors of sunset fade into a sky full of stars.

After dark, look up.

One of the things couples love most about staying at Two Bees Escape is the night sky. With minimal light pollution, the stars often become the evening's entertainment.

And unlike a hotel balcony, you'll have front-row seats from your own private campsite.

Day 2: Waterfalls, Wine Trails, and a Date Night to Remember

Start your morning slowly with coffee, breakfast, and fresh air before heading out to explore one of New York's most iconic destinations.

Morning: Watkins Glen State Park

No romantic Finger Lakes getaway would be complete without a visit to Watkins Glen State Park, one of the most popular attractions in the Finger Lakes.

The Gorge Trail winds through a dramatic stone canyon, passing 19 waterfalls, stone bridges, and cascading streams. It's one of the most photographed places in New York State—and for good reason.

The trail offers plenty of opportunities to stop, take photos together, and simply enjoy the beauty of the landscape.

Afternoon: Seneca Lake Wine Trail

After your hike, spend some time exploring downtown Watkins Glen before heading out to discover the wineries that have helped put the Finger Lakes on the world wine map.

Some of our favorite stops along the Seneca Lake Wine Trail include:

If wine isn't your thing, the region also offers excellent breweries, cideries, and distilleries.

The goal isn't to visit every tasting room. Pick a few, take your time, and enjoy the journey.

Evening: Dinner with a View

For dinner, reserve a table at Stonecat Cafe overlooking Seneca Lake.

Known for its seasonal menu and stunning sunsets, it's one of the region's most beloved date-night destinations.

After dinner, take the scenic drive back to camp, build another fire, and enjoy an evening free from screens, notifications, and obligations.

Some of our guests spend hours simply talking around the fire.

Others curl up with a blanket and watch the stars.

Either way, it's hard not to feel connected out here.

Alternative Day 2: A Finger Lakes Foodie Adventure

Not every romantic getaway revolves around wine tasting, and that's one of the reasons we love the Finger Lakes. The region is filled with local food producers, cheesemakers, bakeries, cafes, farm markets, and scenic spots that make for an unforgettable day together.

Start your afternoon at Lively Run Dairy, one of the Finger Lakes' best-known cheesemakers. Sample their award-winning goat cheeses and pick up a few favorites for later. Continue north to Muranda Cheese Company, where you can explore a wide variety of artisan cheeses and specialty foods while learning about the Finger Lakes' growing reputation as a culinary destination.

Along the way, stop at local farm stands and markets for seasonal produce, fresh baked goods, jams, honey, and other locally made treats. Depending on the season, you'll find everything from sweet corn and peaches to apples, pumpkins, and maple products.

For lunch, visit one of the area's beloved farm-to-table destinations. Enjoy a seasonal meal at Hazelnut Kitchen in Trumansburg, known for showcasing Finger Lakes ingredients, grab a wood-fired pizza and local fare at Lucky Hare Brewing Company in Hector, or stop at Finger Lakes Cider House near Interlaken for dishes built around ingredients sourced from nearby farms, you can find alcoholic beverage alternatives at both - and I am particularly fond of the Ginger Bear ( Ginger Beer) at Finger Lakes Cider House. If you're looking for something quick and casual, Johnny's Kitchen in Lodi is a local favorite for sandwiches, burgers, and ice cream before continuing your adventure.

Not drinking alcohol? You're far from alone. Many travelers visit the Finger Lakes specifically for the scenery, food, hiking, waterfalls, and local culture. Build a picnic from local cheeses, fresh bread, fruit, and pastries and enjoy it overlooking Seneca Lake or at one of the area's many scenic parks and overlooks.

As evening approaches, return to Two Bees Escape with your Finger Lakes foodie finds and settle in for a relaxed evening around your private fire pit.

Keep dinner simple by roasting hot dogs over the fire, grilling burgers, or trying one of our favorite glamping traditions: mountain pies. Fill them with local ingredients you've picked up throughout the day for a fabulous and easy over the fire masterpiece - you can check out some of our favorite recipes in the recipe booklet we created for our guests here.

As the fire crackles and the stars begin to appear overhead, you'll quickly discover that some of the most memorable meals of a Finger Lakes getaway aren't served in restaurants at all. They're shared around a campfire with the person you came to spend time with.

Some of our favorite guest evenings involve nothing more complicated than good food, good company, and a sky full of stars.

Day 3: Scenic Views and One Last Adventure

Before heading home, squeeze in one more Finger Lakes memory.

Wake up early and catch the sunrise from your campsite. The quiet morning hours are often guests' favorite part of their stay.

After breakfast, head north to Taughannock Falls State Park.

Standing 215 feet tall, Taughannock Falls is taller than Niagara Falls and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Northeast.

The overlook offers spectacular views, while the Gorge Trail provides an easy walk to the base of the falls.

Before heading home, make a stop in Trumansburg for coffee and pastries from Gimme! Coffee. Spend some time strolling through the village's shops before beginning your drive home.

As you make the drive home, don't be surprised if you're already planning your next visit.

Planning a Proposal in the Finger Lakes?

Few places are as naturally romantic as the Finger Lakes.

Between the waterfalls, vineyards, sunsets over Seneca Lake, and star-filled skies, it's no surprise that couples choose the region for one of life's biggest moments.

In fact, we've already had one marriage proposal here at Two Bees Escape—and we're happy to report that she said yes.

Whether you're planning a surprise proposal, celebrating a recent engagement, or scouting locations for an anniversary trip, glamping offers a level of privacy and intimacy that's hard to find in a hotel or busy resort.

Imagine returning from a day exploring wineries and waterfalls to find your own private campsite waiting. A fire crackling. A bottle of Finger Lakes wine chilling in the cooler. The stars beginning to emerge overhead.

Sometimes the most memorable proposals aren't the grandest.

They're the ones that feel personal, meaningful, and completely your own.

If you're considering proposing during your Finger Lakes getaway, we're always happy to help answer questions about the property and suggest some of our favorite scenic spots nearby.
